Michael Adler, April 8, 1940 - April 17, 2014

From the The Daily Sentinel, Grand Junction, Colorado

"Michael 'Mike' Boynton Adler, Grand Junction, was adopted by Mortimer and Helen Adler in Chicago, Illinois. Mike grew up in Chicago, San Francisco, and Nantucket Island before settling in Aspen, Colorado, where his father founded the Aspen Institute. He served five years in the US Army, and worked 19 years for Mutual of Omaha. He is survived by his wife, Pam, and children, Sandi Elliott, Grand Junction; Peter (Debbie) Adler, Arvada; Jennifer Adler, Omaha, and Morgan (Justin) Leeson, Fruita; three brothers; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mike was diagnosed with cancer in 2009, and given months to live. He credits his love of volunteering for America's youth, particularly Aspen Camp, for beating the odds. On April 8, surrounded by family and friends, he celebrated his 74th birthday, and on April 17, lost his battle. Many lives were touched by his generosity, humor, and kindness.

A celebration of life will be held at the Monument Presbyterian Church, 2020 ½ South Broadway, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81507, 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Aspen Camp, P. O. Box 305, Snowmass, CO, 81564, or for a memorial tree at Monument Presbyterian Church.
