Philosophy, History, and the Dream of the Great Books Movement

This review by Robert A. Delfino of Dreams of a Democratic Culture: The Great Books Idea, Mortimer J. Adler, and Twentieth-century America, by Tim Lacy, is the first installment of a roundtable discussion of the book at the U.S. Intellectual History weblog.

Robert Delfino is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at St. John’s University in New York City. He was one of the presenters at the July Renewing the West by Renewing Common Sense conference, which the Center co-sponsored.

Professor Lacy's preview of the work in progress was the subject of this earlier post.
